Therapy
There are many areas of speech pathology, many of which we can help you with. Rest assured, if we think there may be someone better suited to your needs, we will refer on.
Articulation and Phonology
An articulation error is when a child, young person or adult is unable to produce a sound. Phonological errors are when a child says one sound instead of another (for example 'tar' for car)
Social Communication and Pragmatics
Social communication and Pragmatics are skills that relate to social interactions and relationships. These skills allow us to understand social experiences and use our skills appropriately, successfully and positively in all of our social experiences.
Play
Play is an extremely important area of development. Play helps to develop language, social understanding, pragmatics, cognition, emotions and imagination.
Language can be broken down into receptive language (ones ability to understand), expressive language (ones ability to express themselves) and pragmatic language (ones ability to use communication in social interactions).
Literacy
Literacy includes reading, spelling and writing. Difficulties with literacy could include dyslexia or other specific learning disorders.
Fluency
Fluency is when a child, young person or adult can speak fluently without using any stuttering characteristics.
Feeding
Feeding can involve assessment and therapy for individuals with swallowing difficulties or for those who may be considered to be 'picky eaters' possibly due to sensory aversions.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication
AAC includes providing communication strategies, individualised techniques and intervention for people with a variety of communication needs.
